Derek Dufresne is an accomplished bass guitarist and songwriter, and started playing the clubs in bands when he was only 16 years old. He has shared the stage with many major label recording acts such as Quiet Riot, I Mother Earth, Econoline Crush, Sass Jordan, and more. During the 90’s, he played bass in many cover and original bands. During this time he released 3 EPs, and released a video for the track "Supergun" (Rats For Friends) as part of a music program by CKND TV in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was the number one most requested video in the series.
He was the youngest student ever accepted into "PMC- Professional Musicians College”,(Winnipeg, MB) at the age of 15. Studied Multitrack recording at Mid Ocean School of Media Arts (Winnipeg), and “Producing Music with Logic” at Berklee College of Music (Boston)
In 2010, formed a new project “KILL STAR” with friends Brent Andres (guitar), and Purple (vocals). The project was originally conceived as a writing project but after months of writing (via email!) and posting music online (facebook etc..) they started to build up a strong fan base eager for more and for live shows. So they recruited another guitar player and drummer in order to play a few shows.
They played their first live show together in November 2010, without so much as a single rehearsal under their belts and won First place in a "Battle of the Bands"!
4 of their demo cuts in preparation for the studio, were added into rotation on numerous internet radio stations.
Recorded 12 songs at “Platinum/Gold Studios” with engineer Shane Ward, Winnipeg, MB. Mixed by Eric Mosher (The Warehouse Studios) in Vancouver, BC
Debut CD “Threshold” is set to be released summer 2011.
Derek has been interviewed in RockStarWeekly.com and Twisted Rose Magazine.
“Kill Star” won the online voting in Power 97 “River City Rocks” contest- Winnipeg, Manitoba. This was online voting by fans and Kill Star won 1st place in a landslide. Almost 2000 more votes than the 2nd place winner!
First single “See You” from upcoming album, now in rotation on many internet radio stations, and still being added to others.
